BYU Reminiscences: 7 years in the making

This is a way old post draft, but I feel like I need some space on my blog between my recent past and what lies ahead. I did not see this ending coming, but I know the Lord and my amazing family and friends will keep me strong while I figure it all out. So in the meantime while I work things out, here are some of my fun BYU memories. Not all, but the pics I have collected so far.

All I need is love… and chocolate

I had an “appointment” today. It was extremely successful, actually! Which was surprising and exciting and happy all in one. Until they mentioned that it is contract, not full-time, no benefits.  -boo- Overall, I was kinda bummed out after I left, because I knew that the offer just didn’t have enough to make me take it. It’s nice that I was good enough to merit such a rapid offer, for what sounds like a very dynamic and exciting job. But in the end, I’m probably not looking for a career, just a stable position that will keep me happy for the short term. Maybe I’m Debbie Downer right now, but it just wasn’t what I hoped it would be. Getting the offer is almost worse than not getting it at all. On the positive side, it’s nice to know that at least one company/industry found me highly qualified and desirable.  Read more…

Momentous Moments

First, I have to announce that in two months from today, I will be Mrs. Erica B. Gonzalez!! June 15th keeps inching closer and closer, despite all of life’s attempts to make it seem far away. WOW! That’s super exciting and I’m glad we still have some time to plan and get things finished up. In all honesty, most of the wedding things are taken care of… at least the major ones. Announcements are in progress of being designed, we’ve found an apartment, the honeymoon is coming together (from what I’m allowed to know about it) and soon it will all be happening. The best part of being engaged? Realizing ever so slowly just how much Joan loves me by all the small things (and big things) he does just for my happiness. Second, I now have over 300 blog posts. I love writing!!Third, I think Spring Break really worked for Read more…

Spring Break

It’s my week off!! What am I doing with all my time? Find an apartment. (This took 5 hours today and could take more tomorrow.) Finish grading things for school. (I refuse to spend more then 3 hours of my vacation days doing work for my job.) Cleaning, sanding, and spray painting frames for wedding decorations. Organizing, de-cluttering, and packing to move. Coordinating my move out and a new roommate to move in.  Working on invites, guest lists, and all other things wedding…. Sleeping in.  Obviously, staying up late sometimes 🙂 I’m sure I’ve missed something in there. Oh yes, there may be some job searching and interviewing happening. Like yesterday when I drove all over the place to run errands and interview.  Oh yeah, seeing doctors too. Man, and it’s not even halfway through the week! It’s all exciting stuff, but boy is there a ton to do and Read more…

87 Days!!

87 days left till the wedding!!! Wow, it’s crazy how fast and how slow the time is going. Things are working out great for Joan’s new job venture. He is signing a contract this week to work with them for the next few months on a project basis, and it also has a commitment to bring him on full-time by December1. As a start-up business it’s a little bit scary, but we both feel good about the prospects and it’s the best time for us to be taking this kind of leap of faith. Things with my job have taken a turn as well…. and based on how awful last week was that means it’s a positive turn! It was quite the work for my supervisor and me to change around the whole schedule, but we put math in the morning instead of right after lunch. Between the overall change of Read more…

13 weeks left…

This simple accident of falling in love is as beneficial as it is astonishing.Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894)I love Joan. I appreciate his strength when I am struggling, and I love that I can be strong for him when things are crazy in his life. Admittedly, it’s always nicer to not be the crazy one, but when someone loves you enough to deal with those moments? You can’t buy that with money. I learn almost daily from Joan – random tidbits of knowledge, insights into how I can improve my life… loving him teaches me so many things. My biggest wish is that we can both survive until June: me and my job and him with his stresses (which affect his blood pressure, which isn’t good for a diabetic.) Thankfully we have eternity!

From my secret project

I have a secret project I’m doing for Joan. He doesn’t read my blog (he doesn’t have time!!) so I feel safe sharing bits and pieces here. This is from a set of pictures his dad took of us two weeks ago. I can’t wait to share secrets with Joan all the rest of our lives! There is so much in the world for us all if we only have the eyes to see it, and the heart to love it, and the hand to gather it to ourselves.                                                                         Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942)
